Don't ask me about the 18 that are missing. Again, favourite artists? Two come to mind: Mississippi John Hurt and Jimmy Rushing, the very mention of their names makes me feel all warm and cozy (but it's not about how many good records they have either, you see?). Maybe I'll just return home after playing the field for a while (it will be a long, long while at any rate, that's for sure). My listening habits would change dramatically if I only could take the music of my so called favorite artists to my desert island.īut at the same time I'm not sure the way I feel about music, as of now, is definitive. don't get me wrong: it's not that is not fair to them (the artists), it's not fair to me! (I've talked about different artists, but what about different worlds, different musical cultures? that's enticing to me, too) In plainer words, the music of my favorite artists is no representative of the music I'm interested in as a whole. For there's too much interesting music, by lots and lots of different artists that risks being obliterated because of these kinds of approach. What used to be my list of favourite artist feels more and more like a list of idle, distant gods : The Beatles* a case in point. Maybe for that reason I'm not worried about AI music: the very notion of music created by machines is interesting to me, even if the music turns out to be bad ! but I don't feel it, more and more I feel like it's not about artists, not about authorship, not about musical personality ( you know: 'B. It's funny: ' twenty favourite artists? Ok, let's give it a go.' and then I realize that I don't feel like I have as many as twenty favourite artists, I could take some kind of mathematical approach and say : 'ok, Mose Allison? there are several records by him that I really like, he should be in'.
